Rhonda Pritchard has been in private practice in Wellington as a counsellor, supervisor, mentor and trainer for twenty five years. She is now retired.

In 1995 she began writing books on family relationships:

  • Love in the Real World: (Starting and keeping close relationships)
  • When Parents Part: How Kids Adapt: (What hurts and what heals)
  • How Money Comes Between Us: (Common family problems, creative solutions)

In 2006 she wrote a booklet – ‘Children are Unbeatable: 7 very good reasons not to hit children‘ sponsored by the Office of the Children’s Commissioner, UNICEF and the Families Commission. Available free of charge from r.blaikie@occ.org.nz.

After her early career in teaching English, History and Music, Rhonda began counselling training and was employed as a director in Marriage Guidance (now Relationship Services) in 1979, and later became a psychotherapist and certified Transactional Analyst.

In 2001, she completed her honours degree in Psychology. her research topic was an investigation into prediction and prevention of filicide (the killing of children by a parent) in the context of separation and custody disputes. She also investigated recent research on sustaining relationships and on the effectiveness of couple therapy.

Rhonda is a member of the New Zealand Psychological Society and of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors.

She provides training courses for counsellors, and teaches communication skills and conflict resolution to managers and staff in organisations.

Rhonda has been married for 20 years and has a daughter and step son, now both adults.
